For My Mother

For Marguerite, A Daisy

by Carmen H Gray

In that field of flowers

She held my small hand

Her cinnamon skin

Dark sympathetic eyes

Full lips opening in laughter

Her smile so radiant

I  was warm

and safe

and loved

That day and all days

In her presence

A Mother’s Heart

For My Son

by Carmen H Gray

I had a dream about you

Before you existed

In the sun-dappled

Carefree, motherless days

You were bright

As the rays

Shining through the screen of the leaves

You were exuberant and free

You were old as time and wise

You blessed me with your presence

My mother’s heart waking up to life
