About Me

I began this blog in 2014 when my daughter was diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoma, from which she fully recovered. Nevertheless, the cancer journey was staggering and writing was a way to cope with the emotional pain. It re-awakened the writer in me.

I also craft fiction, employing elements of the supernatural and magical realism. My Mexican-American heritage and work with English Language Learners is reflected in the characters of my stories. Below you can find links to my published work.

My first published short story, Daniel’s Dilemma, is included in this edition of Road Kill Volume I: Texas Horror by Texas Writers.

My next published short story, The Smoke’s Gotta Go Somewhere, is in the fall 2019 edition of Road Kill Volume IV: Texas Horror by Texas Writers.

An excerpt of it read by me at Malvern Books in Austin in December 2019 can be found here

Marla Reinvented, was a real treat to write! I was thrilled to have it accepted into an all female anthology, Femme Fatales: Castle of Horror Anthology Volume 6. A video of the authors from Femme Fatales discussing their ideas can be found here

Refugio Remembers, a short story set in Goliad, Texas, was published in the 2022 edition of Road Kill Volume 7: Texas Horror by Texas Writers.

My first YA horror fiction piece, A Tale As Old As Time, was included in the fall 2022 Castle of Horror Anthology YA: Volume 9.

Currently, I have an upmarket women’s fiction (with a touch of magical realism) novel, Monarca, that is in the works.

I am a member of the Writer’s League of Texas, have attended the Algonkian Writer’s Conference, and am a contributing writer and editor for Latino magazine.

It’s never too late to live your dreams. Write On!
